How to Request Autographs Through the Mail

So everyone knows I LOVE to collect autographs. I try to collect those that mean a little something to me, whether the person has sung one of my favorite songs or starred in a tv show or movie that I love or think is fun. I don't see the point in collecting people I've never heard of. lol. But to each her own right? Collecting is pretty easy, a lot of people say it's expensive but I haven't really run into much expense except stamps and photos (I like to hit the FREE photo offers from CVS or Walgreens, or even use Shutterfly as they have a lot of free 4x6 prints). You can even request autographs through email, facebook, twitter, and Instagram. I've gotten some fantastic replies via those venues.

Here is what you need to request autographs through TTM (Through The Mail):

-Envelopes
-Stamps
-Paper (I LOVE stationery!)
-Something to have signed even if it's just an index card.

1.  You want to gather something you want to be signed. A card, a photo, anything really. Some people send CDs, and I've actually sent DVD and VHS tape sleeves through the mail.

2. Write a very nice letter, you want to tell the person what you like about their skills, what your favorite movie, show, game, whatever, just praise them, then ask very nicely for an autograph. (The same for any type of request be it Letter or Email or Messaging on Social Media). Be Sincere!

3. Make sure you add a self-addressed stamped envelope. If it's a 4x6 photo, one stamp works for me, the bigger the photo the more stamps you want to use. If you are sending to another country (Canada, UK, etc) you want to use a Forever International stamp.

4. Have patience. Sometimes it takes a few weeks to get a response, sometimes a few months, sometimes you never see that envelope back again.

Please keep in mind that sometimes it may take months to receive a response back as the person you are writing may be busy filming a new movie, or on tour. It's a pretty simple process. Just be prepared to get some rejections or an RTS (Return To Sender).

Here are some of the item's I've received:

Adam Lambert through an email request!

Brec Bassinger from Bella and the Bulldogs through the mail. I mailed her these photos and she signed.

Doris Day through the mail request, she sends you the photo she does not sign photos you send.

Gwen Stefani through an email request!

Huw Collins from Pretty Little Liars. I sent him this photo! TTM

Katy Perry from an email request!

A cast signed Playbill from Sunset Blvd. Glenn Close signed it! TTM request I love signed Playbills.

Sarah Jessica Parker from an email request!

William Phipps, who voiced Prince Charming in Cinderella. He's in his 90's but he kindly signed this VHS cover that I sent him.

Stamp Usage:

For an 8x10 photo or DVD/VHS sleeve, you will use a large Manila Envelope. Use 2 Forever Stamps to send it, also include a SASE (Self-addressed Stamped Envelope) with 2 Forever stamps on it as it well. If you are sending multiple photos or something else to be signed add an additional stamp.

For 4x6 photos or cards, you will use two standard letter envelopes and 1 stamp on each envelope will suffice.

For 5x6 photos, you will use the smaller Manila envelope or a Greeting Card Envelopes. You can get by with using 1 stamp each if you send multiple items, add an additional stamp.

For Playbill requests. Use the smaller Manila envelope to receive your playbill. Put two stamps on that. Fold it up small and slide it into a standard letter envelope and use 1 stamp to send the request.

The amount of stamps you use depends on the weight of the envelope so use caution if you think it's too heavy add an additional stamp or two.

For international requests: Please know you MUST use an International Forever Stamp. Those are a little more expensive. For return postage if you don't have stamps from the country you will be receiving your request from, just put in a few dollars. That has worked in the past. :) You cannot buy international stamps at your post office. You can sometimes purchase them online depending on the country.

Now you may be asking yourself: Where do I get addresses?! Well, read my post HERE on how to find addresses and the best resources.
