Last night I had two advanced movie tickets to see the movie Despicable Me, which I must say was really good. The animated movie starred the voices of Steve Carrell, Miranda Cosgrove, and Russell Brand but was quite great in the way it spoke to both children and adults.
The theater was packed with children, and strangely enough it looks like it was Father's night to take the kids out, as I didn't see many mothers. The theater was packed of course, there were security guards standing at the back to make anyone leave who dared to touch their cell phone. I wound spending over $10 for two icees and a bag of popcorn. But hey, the movie was free!
The movie starts out with a child falling on a pyramid and then bounces off. A super villain called Vector stole the pyramid and then replaced it with an inflatable one. Then we have three children from a local orphanage who are selling cookies, they encounter an evil villain, Gru, who seems to have no compassion or love for anyone. He also has these little minions that are really cute but you can't understand anything they say. Well, Gru concocts a way to steal the moon, however when he tried to get a loan from the Evil Bank he was denied due to the fact that he did no have the shrink ray gun he would need in order to do so.
Well, I really don't want to go into too much detail after that, however let's just say that the way Gru goes about getting the shrink ray also show him he DOES have a heart when he falls in love with those three orphaned girls. It really was a heartwarming story and well worth taking your kid to see (or if you have a guilty pleasure for the animated cartoons like I do, then go see it yourself!)
The movie premieres July 9th and check your local theaters because some of them will have it in 3D. I was lucky enough to see it in 3D and it was quite fun!
