A Baking Affair

Baking...I know it sounds motherly...grandmotherly but there is something sensual about the actual act of baking. The gathering of the ingredients, the prep work, measuring, the care and the time a woman takes to make it look spectacular. The glide of the smooth batter or icing. The melding together of two completely different ingredients to create something new, something exciting and beautiful. Food is beautiful, the smell, the taste, the consistency. And when we combine sugar and butter and it makes a sweet delightful treat like buttercream icing you know you have hit the foodie jackpot.

If you doubt me on this, try baking with a friend...a special friend, wash his hands as he starts to stir he ingredients, watch his eyes dilate his nostrils flair at the smell. The fact that you are baking something as simple as a cupcake or even a cookie makes no difference.

The kitchen is hot, the oven is boiling, your face heating as you can't wait the 18-20 minutes it takes for your creation to cook, you are swirling the icing in its bowl to keep it stiff (even the terminology is sinful) so that you can easily spread your icing on those cool cupcakes or that beautiful two two layered chocolate cake

The timer dings and your break catches as you pull that treat out of the hot oven, our forehead beading with sweat as you are bent over that over, you put your treat out to cool and again you have to wait. Wait until the heat dies down so that you can start all over again with the icing. Once you get the icing spread, you sit there and look at your work. It's done, now its time to bite into your handiwork and by this time you are so ready for the taste to explode into your mouth that you feel your mouth watering and when you finally do take that bite, you are in pure bliss.

Now tell me that doesn't sound exotic?
