So you have EBT. I fully believe in the EBT system as long as the rules are followed. EBT is amazing for families who are struggling to make ends meet and if my tax dollars can go to anything it would be EBT, Medicare/Medicaid and Housing Assistance.
But enough about that...I know it's a controversial subject and I'm not looking to trigger anyone.
So there are some things you can get with your EBT card that you may not know about! Here is a small list of things you can get that you will want to check out. I will tell you if they also consider other programs such as WIC and Medicaid as well.
1. Amazon. You may not know this but you can get discounted Amazon Prime if you have EBT, TANF and Medicaid.This is a really awesome discount. You would pay just $5.99 and receive FULL Amazon Prime benefits such as Free 2 day shipping, Free ebooks, Free streaming of shows and movies and so much more. Definitely, check it out! You will have to upload copies of your documents to receive the discount so keep that in mind.
2. Discovery Place. If you live in or around the Charlotte area (Or even in SC) you can use your EBT card or WIC voucher to gain entrance to any Discovery Place museum for $1. This discount will apply to up to 6 people in your party and you must show your benefits card. This will only be available to NC and SC residents.
3. Seeds and Plants that produce food. If you didn't know this you CAN use your EBT card to purchase seeds or any plants that you can grow on your own to produce food. This is pretty awesome. Take squash for instance. You can get the little squash plants at Walmart for about $1-$3 each and if you buy about 4 of them you can produce several pounds of squash. Anytime we plant it we have SO MUCH food we cut it up and freeze it. I've seen people can these too but I'm not sure how to can...yet. We will definitely be buying squash plants for the Spring here, as well as tomatoes. But think about it. You pay about $2 for a few squash at the store when the same amount of money can produce multiple meals. Definitely, take a look. And don't tell me you live in an apartment and can't garden. I grew these in a big pot before.
4. North Carolina Aquariums on Roanoke Island, Pine Knoll Shores and Fort Fisher. With your EBT card, you can check out the NC Aquariums listed above for just $3 for adults and $2 for children aged 3-12 for up to 4 people. This is an awesome discount that will allow you to see some beautiful ocean creatures. To receive this discount you do need to show your EBT card along with a photo ID.
5. Free Fishing License. Yes that's right, if you have EBT, Medicaid or Work First Family Assistance you can get a waiver for 1 year to fish for free. Anyone over the age of 16 is required have this license, but if you do qualify you will be issued the voucher from your county DSS office. Now, this is for sure happening in NC, and I know Florida offers this as well but I think it's a bit different there, check your local DSS office to see if this is something offered in your state.
6. Farmers Markets. You can even use your EBT at some Farmer's Markets. You have to check your local market to see if they participate and a large comprehensive list can be found on the SNAP federal website. This is throughout the entire country from NC to CA, just check the list to see if you can find a local market that participates.
